The SOTA Stage ignites with energy and excitement with Dance Concert 2012! The creative choreography of the SOTA Dance Department faculty and Dance majors are woven together in this unforgettable evening of movement, music and motion.  Dance Concert 2012 will captivate your imagination, excite your senses, and thrill you with every step.  A myriad of dance forms are featured including: modern, jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, swing and musical theatre.  Dance Concert 2012 is exhilarating entertainment for all ages.

The SOTA Singers' For the Love of Song Concert

The time is 1962 and the place is Baltimore where we meet Tracy Turnblad, a teenage girl with big dreams and even bigger hair. Hairspray is a Tony Award-winning Broadway hit musical. When Tracy wins a spot on the local TV dance program, she finds she finds herself transformed from an outsider to an overnight, celebrity sensation. Fun, frivolous, and fantastic … Hairspray will leave you energized and have you dancing in the aisles.

The David Silver Gallery proudly presents a season of art exhibits created by our students. Each exhibition reflects the talents, imagination and artistry of SOTA’s Visual Arts majors. It’s the third season for The SOTA Improv Troupe and get ready to be amazed, amused and entertained. The SOTA Improv Troupe dishes up super-sized helpings of fast-paced action, zaniness, and just plain fun. SOTA Improv Troupe creates characters, scenes and songs on the spot using improvisation games and random suggestions from the audience. Improvisation is often the birth of great sketch comedy. Enjoy an evening of good fun and surprises galore!

Autumn in New York: Vernon Duke’s Broadway

On Sunday September 26, 2010, the incomparable Klea Blackhurst paid tribute to Broadway composer Vernon Duke, the creator of such indisputable standards as “April in Paris,” “Autumn in New York,” and “Taking a Chance on Love.” Her powerful pipes, intelligent and humorous patter, and sublime lyrical interpretations made for a memorable evening.

This event was sponsored in part by Ames-Amzalak Memorial Trust in memory of Henry Ames, Semon Amzalak and Dan Amzalak.

A Smooth Jazz Birthday Bash
Featuring Joseph Wooten, Herb Smith & Jimmie Highsmith, Jr.

On Friday September 24, 2010, Friends of SOTA presented "A Smooth Jazz Birthday Bash" with two-time Grammy nominee Joseph Wooten on keyboards, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s trumpeter Herb Smith, and acclaimed saxophonist Jimmie Highsmith Jr. The award-winning SOTA Jazz Band, under the direction of Jose’ Encarnacion, opened the concert.

All net proceeds went to benefit the Friends of School of The Arts Pocket Change Fund.

Klea Blackhurst in “Everything the Traffic Will Allow:
The Songs and Sass of Ethel Merman”

On Saturday, May 1, 2010 Friends of School of the Arts rolled-out the Red Carpet and welcomed Broadway sensation Klea Blackhurst to the Main Stage Theatre. Blackhurst performed her highly acclaimed, one-woman show "Everything The Traffic Will Allow: The Songs and Sass of Ethel Merman" at School of the Arts.
